What is the situation at FIFA as Gianni Infantino scrapped plans to sell off part of the World Cup to private investors.

What is actually going on?

    Over the last few weeks, Gianni Infantino and FIFA have been under much scrutiny for trying to sell off part of the World Cup to private investors. It was being reported that they were aiming to sell about 20-30% of the tournament. This came to immense backlash from the whole world with multiple associations speaking out against this decision. UEFA have been especially vocal in this and are to boycott all FIFA tournaments until Infantino is gone. CONCACAF and AFA have also spoken out against these controversial plans. However, these plans have since been scrapped and multiple FA's have called for Infantino to step down and for there to be a new FIFA president. In addition, there are strong reports of bribery from FIFA and FA's across the world meaning that things are biast and football is being run in a corrupt and selfish manor.

What is the impact of this on world football?

    This has a major impact on world football, with the UEFA boycott means significantly less strong teams in the tournament. The impact of this is less money for FIFA and a massively reduced quality level. Due to this, fans won't want to come to games and overall it would mean that we will have World Cup's that are low in quality. If stakes in the tournament were to be sold off, it would effectively make the World Cup even more of a mass money-maker than it already is. It would be vastly made more into entertainment spectacle instead of something for true football fans.

    The pressure on Infantino also creates a divide on the game that is supposed to bring us together. With different FA's siding for or against Infantino, it creates a harsh divide in the game that can create more tension across world football. Another thing that will create fragility in football is the bribery and corruption that he has been accused of left right and centre. He clearly plays up to Donald Trump and does whatever he asks. For instance, he suspended Florian Balogun's red card in the World Cup and Balogun was their best player and he broke FIFA's neutrality policy and awarded Mr. Trump the inaugural FIFA Peace Prize despite the fact he then followed to cause mass destruction to Iran and kidnap the Venuzean president. In order to gain votes, Infantino has been rumored to have offered Morocco the World Cup final in 2030 to secure the votes of 54 African countries. These bribes and overall corruption make the world football platform unstable and money orientated due to Infantino's geo-political bribes and favouritism to Donald Trump.

Who could replace him?

    On March 18th 2027, all of FIFA's 211 member associations will vote on who is to be the FIFA President. The candidates have until 18th November to put themselves forward to oppose Infantino. There are a few people who could replace Infantino at the helm of FIFA, UEFA President, Aleksander Ceferin is one of the potential candidates to replace Gianni Infantino. As UEFA President, he successfully led the revolt against the plans to sell off part of the World Cup and has had successful EURO's campaigns in which he gave 97% of revenue back to football in 2024. This shows that he really cares for the game and isn't in it just for the money.

    A more likely candidate is CONCACAF President Victor Montagliani, he is FIFA Vice-President too, and has a good track record in the job, doing things like re-building FIFA after the 2015 corruption scandal and  was pivotal in designing the 48 team World Cup. These will make him popular with sponsors and broadcasters. As CONCACAF President, he has funded himself to visit all 41 countries, and reformed CONCACAF after the previous presidents were were indicted for bribery. These credentials both in FIFA and CONCACAF as a reformist who can build credibility not only with members, but with sponsors too make him suited for the job. However, the biggest pull for Montagliani is the Trans-Atlantic alliance with UEFA and Cerferin, if all EUFA and CONCACAF nations vote for Victor, they will only require 10 votes from like minded FA's across the world for Infantino to be unseated from the FIFA throne.

    Other contenders like PSG president Nasser Al-Khelafi and Lise Klavness are strong candidates to oppose Infantino. Al-Khelafi and Ceferin are working together to make a case to get Infantino out. This is because of Al-Khelafi has strong links with wealth can aid the strategy to oppose Gianni Infantino. However, he has been reported to have no interest in taking the role and will act as more of an orchestrator in the removal of Infantino. The NFF(Norwegian Football Federation), president.

    Lise Klaveness has escalated her campaign to succeed Infantino as FIFA President. She is with UEFA and CONCACAF and fully supports their open letter that UEFA, CONCACAF and AFA sent to FIFA questioning Infantino. A key aspect of her bid is her ethics and law skills. She is a trained lawyer and has reported Gianni Infantino to FIFA's Ethics Committee about his bribes and corruption. This committee can issue football bans and is highly powerful in world football. This passion shows that she cares a deeply about the game and clearly shows that she won't be so focused on cash. The major hurdle in her way though is that she is a female and there has never been a female FIFA President.
