Andoni Iraola is they new Liverpool manager. Is he the right man to get The Reds back to the glory days of Jürgen Klopp?
Is he the right man for the job?
After Arne Slot's sacking on Saturday, Liverpool have been quick in appointing a new head coach in Andoni Iraola. After leading Bournemouth to a 6th place finish and Europa League for the first time in their history, he is known for his physical, aggressive and attack minded coach. The sacking of Slot comes at a wired time with legend Xabi Alonso going to Chelsea a few weeks prior. At Bournemouth, he has fostered some unbelievable players such as Antoine Semenyo and Milos Kerkez. He has a 37.8% win rate which is the highest in their top flight history, winning 48, drawing, 38 and losing 4 and averages 1.43 points per game. However, at Bournemouth he was under no pressure as he was overachieving and had a limited budget. Under FSG, he will have to hit the ground running and will have almost infinite money to play around with, providing he get financial backing. At Liverpool, it is high pressure and they fans expect attacking, exciting football, and most importantly, winning trophies and he only has 1 Cypriot Sup Cup in 2018/19. The biggest question for him is can he make that step up and not only play good football but win games and honours under pressure. If Liverpool had opted for King Xabi, he would be used to these situations as he has managed Real Madrid and won an unbeaten Bundesliga with Bayer Leverkusen. Alonso also would be used to winning trophies and also competing in 3 games a week, something Iraola has not. Will Iraola know the winning formula and how to get the best out of his players like he did at Bournemouth, but is it right getting an inexperienced manager at the top level after an underwhelming season where they lost 20 games. Or has his tenure at Bournemouth and his forward, attacking system be enough to make the step up and make Liverpool great again.
